Random 13 things

A few things I forgot to take to camp

1. Sharp knives

2 .The apple/peeler/corer thingy

3.More than one bra - so much for colour coordination

4.Camp chair - dining hall chairs NOT comfy for reading

What I remembered to take to camp this year

5. margaritas in a bottle - damn straight - necessary for making perogies

6. rubber boots - really wet this year

7, jacket with a hood

as for the rest

8. Vista is a pain in the ass. - and I am STILL not getting a MAC so don't even go there.

9. must find recent utility bills and tax statement for the real estate transfer

10. SU is talking to me all of a sudden. Particularly about the dog and how he needs this that and the other thing.

11. Two friends are bringing over champagne after SU leaves the house.

12. I realize people don't know what to say but it's a divorce not a death... though......

13. WHY are so many people intent on making sure I "get out there " soon after SU is out of the house? roll eyes.

Thursday Thirteen.

13 things going on

1. Rebel managed to get a parking ticket AND a speeding tickert in the same week. Number of days she's had her license? Less than 90 days!
2. Sister in law is telling me that SU's brother and a friend of his are expecting to be staying at *my* house when they land in town in early July. AS IF
3. SU - still doesn't have a place as far as I can tell.
4. SU has yet another picture of the soon to be married and departing fantasy girlfriend in his wallet. I am thinking about having someone put out an APB on her photos - get them off of whatever site they're on. This is either creepy or just plain whacked!
5. Getting the window guy lined up for August.
6. My lawn is decent looking now that I've lined up someone to cut it regularly.
7. Planning garage sale with Rebel Junior - we'll have it when her exchange student arrives from France. No doubt they don't have garage sales in small villages in France.
8. Why is the emergency brake light staying lit on my dashboard when I know that brake isn't engaged? Hmmm would this have anything to do with the wheel bearing that has to be replaced? Guess I'll have to bite the bullet and get this fixed.
9. Having a tough time figuring out how to transfer pictures and books into my slick Sony eReader - coolest piece of technology I own. If I could get it working. Where's tech support when you need it?!
10. SU drank my margaritas in the bottle. WTF!?!?
11. I really hate it when the batteries die in the remote control for the tv in my bedroom. Hey.. here's a good status line for my profile page on Facebook.
12. Golf tournament at work tomorrow. I don't golf. Next year we're going to have the anti golf tournament and go to the mini golf place that is indoors - we'll play in the evening during the rock and roll black light night! then crash the big kids tournament dinner!
13. It just doesn't sound right when the mediator sends an email to all the parties - the two who are separating and their lawyers saying " hi all - I'll look forward to receiving the signed off copies. It's been a pleasure working with all of you. " seriously - like we're engaging in something fun. No looking forward to it at all... like medicine. Need to do it to start a healing.

Thursday Thirteen.

1. Rebel has moved out with the BF. Doesn't understand why I won't let her take "her" furniture. Apparently because I don't have 'respect" for him she's ticked with me and doesn't think she needs to have respect for me either. sigh.

2. Rebel Junior has been matched up with an exchange student from France. Student arrives at the end of August.

3. Soon to be X SU -KA XSU - has been home sick this week. I think that they're having a party for the fantasy girlfriend and he's not interested in being there. Oh woe is him.

4. I hired a lawn cutting service to take care of my lawn this year. I am going to have enough to do that cutting the lawn just won't be on the schedule. I hired *Morgan* thinking it was a he... He is a SHE!!! It's a student business and she has two hired hands cutting the grass in my town. I am really pleased to be supporting this now.

5. Was in Montreal over the weekend at my professional conference and had no time to actually attend workshops or learning sessions as I was busy with business and process stuff this time. Didn't do ANY shopping or sight seeing either as I didn't stick around long enough.

6. oh.. except for the one evening when we went to a restaurant where you eat in pitch black. yes... really. www.onoir.com Food was great, atmosphere... very interesting. I would do this again.

7. Waiting to hear final details from The Barracuda to get the agreement settled. The last review set me back $800 I guess I shouldn't complain too much - it could be a whole lot worse and expensive.

8. As far as I can tell, XSU not house hunting much at all. There 's a house for sale up the street. He should take it.

9. I am catching a cold. I feel it in my throat and chest - the dry cough thing.

10. I have to get to Winnipeg. My dad... oy! my dad. Not doing well at all. He was caught "driving erratically" and refused a road side breathalyzer test. You're not allowed to do that. He also had a $1000 of cash in his pocket as he was headed to the local casino. My brothers and I are concerned. This isn't good.

11. XSU drank my last two wine coolers! WTF?!?!

12. RJ ate the last chocolate croissant. WTF!?!?!

13. In the words of Rosanne Rosannadanna... "it's always something!"

Thursday Thirteen

  1. No Wordless this past Wednesday.
  2. For some reason the wireless went bonkers yesterday and I wasn't about to spend hours on the phone with the IPS trying to figure out the what. I told RJ to do it, but she has this weird aversion to making phone calls to strangers in particular so nothing happened until she got the bright idea to hit the reset button on the router and that seemed to fix things. Who knew.
  3. So no mediation until May 11th unless the Mediator has a cancellation. At this point I'll even take time during the work day to get this done.
  4. SU, meanwhile, has been holed up in his lair post dental surgery - though I noted he managed to scarf down an entire box of those Juniors chocolate caramel thingies... i don't think they've been periodontically approved.
  5. I've been kind of coasting and feeling apathetic stilll and realize I need to get my taxes done - today's the deadline. I can't find my password anywhere for the UFile site so I will probably have to create a new one again... I can never keep track of this stuff so if someone has a brilliant idea do tell.
  6. Rebel and I attended a Fundraising breakfast for the Heart Institute. We were part of a video appeal for funds... it was good. We were the only women in the patient stories piece... the rest middle aged white guys ... Three hundred people being asked to start at $1000 commitments ... that was amazing as the cheque books and credit cards came out.
  7. The camera was waaaay too close - as I watched myself I decided I need a face lift and new lipstick colours... not necessarily in that order. Or better lighting - that might be less drastic.
  8. Lipstick colours though... need to change.
  9. Rebel Junior's birthday next week. She's got 20 friends going for dinner at a local joint and then I think they're ending up at our place for a bit. Not sure though. Since she got a camera AND asked her dad to let her get clothes online from Hollister, I am going to assume she is done for now.
  10. My dad has sent both girls cheques so she will get a few new things and I am on the hook for a cake of some sort.
  11. ho hum ho hum....
  12. will attempt something a little more scintillating next go around folks...
  13. thanks for reading!

Thursday Thirteen.

Subject: draft Separation Agreement, or Why they call her The Barracuda.
TO: Marie

FROM: The Barracuda

13 things I've noticed with your draft agreement.

1. The incomes in paragraphs 1.7 and 1.8 do not match the T4s that are in the disclosure package. Your 2008 T4 shows income of $9000 less than the disclosure statement. SU's income is $4000 higher than stated.

2. There is no child support being paid under the agreement. Given that Rebel is living with you and going to school part-time, and has had health issues, I believe a court would order SU to pay child support for her. The Child Support Guideline amount for one child and his income would be $750 per month.

3.Given the communication problems that have occurred in the past, I wonder if the system for reconciling expenses described in paragraph 6.3 will work for you.

4. It would be preferable to have the issue of Rebel's expenses resolved before the agreement is signed.

5.There is no provision for an annual exchange of income information and review or adjustment of child support – there generally is such a provision in separation agreements.

6.Child support ends at age 22 under paragraph 8.1 – and Rebel is already 21. Given her health issues, there is no question in my mind that she would qualify for support for a longer period of time.

7.Paragraph 9.4 again requires you and SU to agree in the future about Rebel's medication costs. What happens if you do not agree? If would be preferable to state that you are going to share the costs equally or in accordance with some sort of formula if Rebel does not have her own medical coverage at that time.

8. The SU's shark has written and said that SU would like to amend paragraph 12.6 so that he moves out of the house by July 31, 2009. I would have preferred the agreement to provide that he moves out before you pay him the equalization payment. I gather the issue is that SU needs time to find another house. However, once the agreement is signed, he knows the funds are going to be available and he can start looking for a house right away. He does not need the funds in hand to start looking. If you were both selling the house and moving to another house, you would not wait to close the sale and have the funds before you started looking for a house to purchase.

9. In his letter, SU's Shark also makes the point that by using a retirement age of 65 to value both of your pensions, you have realized an advantage. I have calculated it to be about $8,000. If you had used earlier retirement dates to value both of your pensions, the equalization payment would have been about $8,000 more. You might consider this as an offset to SU's obligation to pay child support for Rebel – but if that is the case it only offsets about 10 months of child support.

10. In his letter SU's Shark asks that the joint loan described in paragraph 20.1 be paid within a defined time frame or alternatively, suggests that if you pay SU $3,000 he will assume the loan. It would be preferable for you to pay the $6,000 on the joint loan and pay SU $3,000 less on the equalization payment and be done with it.

11. I will get my assistant to scan and e-mail the Shark's letter to you.

12. Please review the above and

13. How about we chat by phone before you arrange a session to review these points with your mediator.

8. Don't get your knickers in a knot; it solves nothing and makes you walk funny.
9. When life gives you lemons, turn it into lemonade... then mix with vodka... except during Lent.

3. Couldn't find the line of credit cheque book when the guy came to do an assessment of the house for the mortgage broker.
4 Didn't empty the coffee thermos before pouring in fresh coffee this morning - sour sour sour milk taste... Can you see me gagging??
5. French class canceled - meeting in its place forgot about that too.
6. Can't find my tax roll number for the house.
7. Police check needed for Rebel junior's exchange student app- forgot the passport at home.
8. Printer at work not working need to walk a mile to the next one to get my docs.
9. Printer at home not working - need to walk a mile to get ink.

11. Forgot to put laundry detergent in the laundry this am before rushing out.
12. Left my lunch sitting on the counter.
13. Yes... I gave up alcohol for Lent.... sigh...

Thursday, February 26, 2009

13 on Thursday

1. Lent has started. I gave up alcohol - and doing something a little different... need to get to the gym during Lent - to deal with the stress levels of work and upcoming changes at home. I think this is a positive way of looking at things and the 40 day period will get me back into the habit. Alcohol free during scrap and spa weekend. NOT a smart move, and St Patty's too.... .05 alcohol beer I guess.

2. Rebel gets her last two wisdom teeth out Friday. More prayer and good thoughts so I can get to scrap & spa for the weekend.

3. Two dogs in the house is at least one dog too many. I've never had dogs before but Rebel is going about training the puppy all wrong imho.

4. I screwed up something at work - not intentionally but I will have to deal with it. Gotta bite the bullet. Luckily I have many friends everywhere in the organization and I will get some help to smooth things over with the top dog. I hate being in the dog house.

5. I had an energy audit done of the house this week. Photo next wordless Very cool process. Lots of gov't grants to help with sealing drafts, getting new windows and finding where the problem areas are to fix things.

6. Did I mention Scrap & Spa? Sooooo looking forward to getting away. Pictures and stuff not at all organized. Tonight and tomorrow after Rebel gets her teeth done. 20 of us chattering, watching chick flicks, eating a ton, ( hello gym clothes good bye jeans with waist band!) and scrapping!

7. SU *finally* remembered to bring home RJ's report card for end of last term. It took him 2 weeks. I was not impressed. I expressed my displeasure.

8. Waiting for the mediator to finish the final draft of separation agreement before it goes to the lawyers... I owe her another $500.

9. Rebel tells me the BF found a house - They plan to move in together April 1. I roll my eyes.. Should be interesting to see how long she lasts. She is not a domestic sort and really doesn't like being hamstrung. He is a meat and potatoes where's my supper I've been working hard - kind of guy. This will be fun to watch as she continues on her independent road.

10. De-cluttering continues. I need a wife!

11. Mortgage financing near completion but I am not happy with some of the hoops I have to jump through that I've never had to jump before - "new economic climate" be damned!

12. Rebel told me that SU still likes me. whatEvEr

13. I'd like SU a whole lot better if he'd ,..... never mind... it's not worth it.

Thursday Thirteen

13 random things

1. wisdom teeth are not wise at all. Rebel's other two teeth have to come out. The dental surgeon who took out the first two is doing the last two. His wife was the nurse who took care of Rebel right after her transplant surgery. We've come full circle.

2. My number one right hand at work has taken a new job. It's going to take months to replace her. I'll be doing two jobs. I am going into training as of now.

3. More money from the government - a cash back of $1300 for renovations. That will pay for 1 1/2 steel doors for my house.

4. I only get the newspaper delivered on weekends. I don't have time to read it during the week. They keep giving us 6 weeks of free paper. It goes in the door to the recycle bin. I have a news feed at work and am not interested at the end of the day. I called and told them to stop giving me the paper. Why are they surprised?

5. I have no clue what to make for dinner tonight? Reservations?

6. Must pack tonight for the trip to the big city. Rebel wants me to leave my car with her and the BF. AS IF!

7. Must remember to take all my board documents with me on the trip. I haven't read anything - but have finished preparing all my own docs for the Board.

8. Get batteries for the camera. Battery charger still AWOL!

9. Why does a 50 year old woman have acne like a 16 year old. That's just wrong.

10. Am I the only person not interested in seeing the Curious Case of Benjamin Button?

11. Why is the SU surprised to learn that I have been disappointed at not getting birthday cakes and Mother Day special treatment?

12. Figure out the Itunes thingy on the cell phone. Right after I figure out the email on the cell phone.

13. Is it 5:00 PM somewhere? I am ready for a wee nip of something!

Thursday Thirteen

13 Steps to a separation agreement.
(with my comments in brackets!)

Dear Marie and SU :

Thank you for meeting with me this week. . This e-mail will provide a brief summary of your discussions.

Parenting

1. It is anticipated that Rebel will remain living with Marie and Rebel Junior will reside equally with both of you. Given the children's ages you agree that their wishes regarding the weekly schedule and sharing of holidays will be respected. (key word.... respected)

2. You agree however that you want some structure in a parenting schedule and you will share common boundaries and household rules.(this would be a first!)

Child Support

3. Your incomes are relatively equal and you therefore agreed that you would equally share expenses for the children including post secondary education costs, dance (including classes, trips and costumes) clothes and special expenses, such as RJ's upcoming trip and both girls' driver's education.

4. Neither party will incur an expense for the children for which they expect reimbursement from the other parent unless that parent agrees to participate in the expense in advance of the expense being incurred.(agrees... so.... I guess if he wants to purchase another $700 camera I can say no and it would have teeth!)

5. With respect to clothing you will exchange information about what is needed by the children and mutually agree to a budget.

6. You have money earmarked for post secondary education. (you would be ME!)

Property Settlement

7. As part of the overall property settlement Marie will purchase SU's interest in the matrimonial home. Marie will assume or refinance the existing mortgage into her name alone. (yep I will! hello carpenter contractor guy?!)

8. Each of you will keep the assets registered in your individual names except you will transfer ownership of the cars.

9. Marie will pay SU a full and final settlement. The payment will be made to SU once a final separation agreement is signed and the legal paperwork has been completed to transfer the home and mortgage into Marie's name.

10. I have attached a copy of the spreadsheet we reviewed together in mediation setting out your property settlement.(now there's a lot of blah blah blah! but that's where the numbers told the story!)

Spousal Support

11. There is no spousal support payable. The agreement will reflect that each of you forever releases your right to make a claim for spousal support against the other. ( pretty forever final eh?)

Next Steps

12. I will prepare a draft separation agreement for your review and comment and send it to you by email within the next two weeks. I will then arrange a three way conference call to review the agreement with you and answer your questions and make any changes, corrections necessary.

13. After we complete our review and I make the necessary changes to the draft agreement I will send the revised draft agreement to your lawyers for their review with you. There may be further changes to the agreement resulting from your lawyers' recommendations, if so, those changes will be made and a final draft will be sent to your lawyers for signing by you. (NOTHING like a lawyer reviewing another lawyer's work... this should be the fun part!)

BONUS!

Normally we send clients an account, including the fee for the draft agreement, and receive payment in advance of my sending the draft agreement to the clients. My admin person is on vacation this week so preparation of the account will be delayed. I will not hold up on the drafting of the agreement. (how generous.... for a lawyer!)

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.(done that - so really - I don't owe him * a thing* except for 50% of the house revenue?)

Best regards,

THE MEDIATOR ,

Mediator & Collaborative Lawyer

Thursday Thirteen.....

There are two strikes going on here. A transit strike and a second one that is causing huge delays where pickets are set up in front of the parking lots at work. So the usual 45 minutes commute is now taking over 90 minutes, as we crawl down the road at a maximum speedof 20K an hour. Then upon getting to the road up to the parking lot - I hurry up and wait as the picketers only let through 3 cars every 5-8 minutes. So.. when you're car number 50 in the queue, it's a loooong wait... which brings me to -

13 things to do while sitting in the car
driving and/or waiting

The obvious ones first -

1. drink coffee - but not too much.
2. eat breakfast.
3. do the make up mascara only while waiting, not while driving.

now the more creative bunch -

4. Write the Christmas letter and keep it positive and to one page not including images.
5. Address the Christmas card envelopes.
6. Empty the handbag to see what's making it so heavy.
7. Refill hand bag, throwing away the 40 debit receipts that will never make it to the cheque register and the junk from the last century found in the bottom.
8. Call the office and give them location updates and cancel first two meetings of the day.
9. take pictures with the camera phone of the roadside.
10. Send pictures to all your friends telling them where you are.
11. Send text messages to the Rebel Junior to find out if she is using her phone during school hours.
12. Read a book.
13. Relax. It's out of my control, and I can't do a thing about any of it.

13 other uses for vodka
(with thanks to Lidia B
for knowing when to make my day.)

1. To remove a bandage painlessly, saturate the bandage with vodka. The stuff dissolves adhesive.

2. To clean the caulking around bathtubs and showers, fill a trigger-spray bottle with vodka, spray the caulking, let set five minutes and wash clean. The alcohol in the vodka kills mold and mildew.

3. To clean your eyeglasses, simply wipe the lenses with a soft, clean cloth dampened with vodka. The alcohol in the vodka cleans the glass and kills germs.

4. Spray vodka on wine stains, scrub with a brush, and then blot dry.

5. Using a cotton ball, apply vodka to your face as an astringent to cleanse the skin and tighten pores.

6. Add a jigger of vodka to a 12-ounce bottle of shampoo. The alcohol cleanses the scalp, removes toxins from hair and stimulates the growth of healthy hair.

7. Fill a sixteen-ounce trigger-spray bottle with vodka and spray bees or wasps to kill them. Russian vodka works best

8. Pour one-half cup vodka and one-half cup water into a Ziploc freezer bag and freeze for a slushy, refreshing ice pack for aches, pain or black eyes.

9. Fill a clean, used mayonnaise jar with freshly packed lavender flowers, fill the jar with vodka, seal the lid tightly and set in the sun for three days. Strain liquid through a coffee filter, then apply the tincture to aches and pains. Use the cheap American stuff.

10. To relieve a fever, use a washcloth to rub vodka on your chest and back as a liniment.

11. To cure foot odour, wash your feet with vodka.

12 Vodka will disinfect and alleviate a jellyfish sting.

13. Swish a shot of vodka over an aching tooth. Allow your gums to absorb some of the alcohol to numb the pain. If it's going in your mouth ...use the the good stuff.
